| To search for courses, you may enter criteria in to the custom search area or search using one of the following: | |||
| Click the After 5 PM button to display courses that are held after 5 PM. | |||
| Click the Off Campus button to display courses that are held off campus. | |||
| Click the Study Abroad button to display courses that are held outside the United States. | |||
| Click the Building Search button to display courses that are held in a building. | |||
| Click the Honors button to display Honors courses and sections. | |||
| Click the Online & Hybrid button to display Online & Hybrid courses. | |||
| Click the Special Sessions button to display all classes that do not meet the full semester. | |||
| Click the KBS button to display Kellogg Biological Station courses. | |||
| Course Numbers | |||
| You may enter the exact course number you are looking for, such as 151. You may include * as a wild card character to select several courses. For example 1* will select all 100 level courses, 1*h will select all 100 level honors courses. Entering just a * will select all courses for the requested subject and may result in long delays while the pages are returned to you. | |||
| The course number reflects the expected level of educational attainment of the students for whom the course was designed. This guide should be used by prospective students to determine the appropriateness of a given course for their particular level of education. | |||
| 100-299 | Courses designed for first- and second-year undergraduates | ||
| 300-499 | Courses for advanced undergraduate students. They constitute the advanced portion of an undergraduate program leading to the bachelor's degree. A graduate student may carry 400-level courses for credit upon approval of the student's major department or school. In exceptional cases, a graduate student may petition the dean of his or her college, in writing, for approval of a 300-level course for graduate credit. |

| The section number characterizes the general location where a section of a course is being offered. This guide should be used by prospective students to determine which section of a course is most appropriate for enrollment, given its location in Michigan and the world. | |||

| Open/All/Honors Sections | |||
| Display only open sections, all sections, or honors sections. | |||
| Class Location | |||
| You may include or exclude specific locations, buy putting a checkmark next to On Campus, Off Campus, Online Courses, or Study Abroad. | |||
| Course Descriptions | |||
| Course descriptions are available by clicking on the Course Subject and Number, e.g. ABM 100. | |||
| Section Dates & Textbooks | |||
| Section specific dates as well as textbook and supplemental material information are available by clicking on the section number, e.g. 001. | |||
| Building Location | |||
| To view the building location on the campus map, click on the building name. | |||
| The Schedule Builder is used to plan and enroll for classes. | |
| Login | |
| To use the Schedule Builder you must login using your MSU NetID and Password. | |

| Plan a Course | |
| To add a section of a course to your Schedule Builder, you must click on the icon to the left of the section number when searching for courses. NOTE: Planned sections do not reserve a seat in the course. | |

| There are three icons used in the schedule of courses. When clicked, each icon will add the section to your planner, regardless of section status. However, each icon has a specific meaning: | |
| There are open seats in the section. | |
| The section is closed. | |
| The section requires departmental approval for enrollment. | |
| Enroll in a Course | |
| After you have added the section of a course to your planner, click on the Enroll button to enroll in the course. For variable credit courses, you will be asked to select the desired number of credits. | |
| Drop a Course | |
| Click the Drop button next to the enrolled course you wish to drop. | |
| Swap a Course | |
| Click the Swap button next to the enrolled course you wish to swap. You will be asked to select the planned course to replace the enrolled course. Important: Only courses in your planner can be selected to swap. | |
| Open Seat Notification | |
| If a course section in your planner is full, click the Alert button to request an "alert" for an open seat. The alert may be sent to your MSU email account and/or your cell phone via text messaging. Upon receiving the alert, return to your planner to enroll in the course. To cancel an alert or to view all seat notification activity, click the "Open Seat Notifications" link on the planner page. | |
| Add a Non-Course Schedule Entry | |
| To add a non-course entry to your Schedule Builder, click on Add Schedule Entry. Enter a Name or short description for the entry (Entry Name), select the Semester, indicate the Start Time and End Time, and check the Day(s) of the Week on which the entry should appear. When finished, click the Submit Entry button. | |
| Textbooks and Supplemental Material | |
| The Textbook and Supplemental Material page will display textbook and supplemental material information for all enrolled and planned courses in your planner. Textbook and supplemental material information is provided by the department offering the course and is subject to change. Please contact the department with any questions. | |
| View Visual and Print Friendly Schedule | |
| The Visual and Print Friendly Schedule will display a graphical representation of your planned schedule between 8 am and 10 pm. It will also list all enrolled, planned, and non-course entries for the term. In the visual planner, enrolled courses have a solid border and planned courses have a dashed border. If a time conflict exists, it will be indicated with a red asterisk “*”. | |
