This course considers our preconceived or received notions (folk understandings) of animals in comparison to findings from recent scientific studies. This class will provide a more accurate understanding of the unique aspects of human language and cognition, as compared to our animal friends. The class uses interdisciplinary methods and approaches to get a more holistic understanding of language and cognitive capacities of animals and humans.
